Hill Mead is linked to Bakau Lower Basic School in The Gambia, West Africa

The children have written to each other to share aspects of their lives and we have sent four teachers to The Gambia and welcomed two Gambian teachers, including the Head teacher, to Hill Mead.

The Gambian teachers had a fantastic time on trips with school council getting to know London. They led a press conference for Year Four and cooked Gambian food with Year Three. It was a real experience for our children.

We decided we knew so much about the Gambia, we made a museum. We built a huge replica Baobab Tree (the school emblem of Bakau Lower Basic) in the top hall, inside a replica of a traditional African house. Each year group produced work to go inside with African artefacts and a mini African market.

We regularly send shipments of books, computers and furniture to Bakau Lower Basic School.
